BEYOND LUCK & CRISIS

Live Webinar

Tired of reactive, unsustainable funding that never stabilizes?

Build a more strategic, balanced approach to resource development—one that actually holds up under real-world conditions.

Our current funding reality

While much of our world continues 'business as usual,' the nonprofit sector is in the middle of a catastrophic disruption.

Grants are vanishing. Competition for funding has increased anywhere from 2x to 10x, depending on the program area. Donors are scattered and torn in a dozen directions, all of which feel critically important.

As a result, many nonprofits are cutting entire program areas, laying off staff and moving to volunteer-led models, or closing entirely.

At the same time, demand for services is only increasing as people are left with fewer and fewer safe, affordable, reliable options.

This isn’t just a typical funding dip. For many nonprofit subsectors, this current moment is being compared to the scale of impact seen during COVID-19 and even the Great Depression.

Nonprofit resource development is already an excruciatingly difficult area of work. Those of us leading or supporting nonprofit funding right now have found ourselves in an extreme crucible of instability, urgency, and pressure.

So if things feel even harder, less predictable, and more intense right now, that's not your imagination or your fault. That is the current reality we are all working in.

Is this you?

Is your organization...

    • Chasing growing funding gaps?
    • Constantly reacting to the latest crisis with no time to plan or strategize?
    • Reliant on a single source of funding?
    • Impacted by our current sociopolitical climate?
    • Unsure how to find what actually works for you?

For many nonprofits, this is the reality of resource development—especially right now.

For folks leading and supporting nonprofit resource development

Even if we're doing important work, our funding ends up feeling stuck, reactive, confusing, and unsustainable. And working harder, brainstorming fundraisers, and responding to crises isn't getting us back on track.

This isn’t just about effort or skill or finding the perfect idea.

It’s about the pattern we get pulled into: reacting to urgency, relying on limited options, and trying to make strategic decisions without a clear structure.

That combination makes it almost impossible to get out of “stuck and scrambling,” no matter how hard you're working.

It's also cyclical. The more we pursue funding in a way that is reactive, limited, and unstructured, the more we are pushed to continue that approach.

But you don’t have to stay stuck. Once you can see the pattern clearly, you can start to address it in a much more intentional way.

The Beyond Luck & Crisis workshop is about understanding why resource development feels stuck and scrambled, and how to begin building a more strategic, sustainable approach.

What we'll cover in this webinar

I've worked with people who have excellent grant-writing skills, killer fundraising ideas, and even entire lists of warm leads for major gifts, sponsorships, and partnerships—who were all still hitting walls in their funding strategy.

In this workshop, we’re going to step back from individual tactics and look at resource development as a whole—how it’s currently functioning, and what’s missing.

This includes:

    • What resource development can and should include (beyond just hopeful grant-writing and urgent fundraisers)
    • What is making it so difficult, especially right now
    • How to re-orient with clarity, structure, and balance

We’ll also get into topics like funding stream diversification, predictability versus flexibility, capacity and current reality constraints, and how to align funding with mission, values, and programs (instead of the other way around).

The goal here isn’t to cover every aspect of nonprofit funding.

It’s to make the overall structure of resource development more visible, so you can start making more intentional decisions within it.

What you'll walk away with

With only 2 hours together, we’re not going to build a full resource development plan.

What I can do is help you get much clearer on what’s happening for your organization—and what kinds of changes would actually make a difference.

That typically looks like:

    • Understanding why your current approach has felt difficult or unsustainable
    • Being able to name your organization’s specific patterns (not just “we’re stuck”)
    • Having a more strategic lens for evaluating funding decisions
    • And identifying a small number of next steps that make sense for your situation

For a lot of people I work with, the biggest shift is moving from “we need to work harder” and "we need more ideas" to “we need to approach this differently.”

About the Facilitator

Serin Bond-Yancey, MSW (they/any) is an integrative human-systems practitioner with 20+ years of experience supporting nonprofits, small businesses, and neurodivergent leaders, creators, and practitioners through coaching, consulting, and cohort-based labs.

Their work focuses on designing resource development systems that help organizations move out of reactive funding cycles and into more stable, sustainable funding over time—especially in high-pressure and rapidly shifting funding environments.

Serin’s approach integrates strategy, systems thinking, and real-world constraints like capacity, burnout, and organizational dynamics, rather than treating funding as a purely technical or tactical problem.

Most people I work with already have amazing ideas. What they’re missing is a way to make those ideas part of a strategy that actually holds together.

If this feels familiar, you’re not the only one trying to figure it out.

This workshop is a place to step back, make sense of what’s happening, and start getting unstuck with your resource development.
